Shimon Peres, Pragmatist And Visionary Who Embodied Israel’s Saga

Shimon Peres, who died early Wednesday morning, served as one of Israel’s most prominent politicians and played major roles in the founding of Israel, the development of its military might, and, later, its peace process with its neighbors.
As a young Israeli defense official, Mr. Peres secured arms and technology deals that laid the foundation blocks for his fledgling country’s military might.
Decades later, he championed territorial concessions in peace deals with Israel’s Arab neighbors – becoming the vastly more powerful nation’s best-known dove abroad.
