Boston Museum of Science Receives $50 Million From Bloomberg

Michael R. Bloomberg, the three-term mayor of New York and billionaire philanthropist, has said that throughout his life he has been most influenced by his parents. In second place: the Museum of Science, Boston.
Now Mr. Bloomberg is giving back to the museum with a $50 million gift — the largest in its 186-year history. The money will be used to support and rename the museum’s education center after his parents, William and Charlotte Bloomberg.
In addition, the gift will go toward the education center’s computer and food-science programs. In a telephone interview Mr. Bloomberg said that he hoped these programs could provide an example to be copied elsewhere. The museum, he added, is not just “for Boston and the surrounding areas.”
